Meet Stephanie Maslow Blackman, the mastermind of sustainable fine jewelry company Metalicious. Their practices are leading the way in ethical business, starting with the conscience decision to use only recycled metals and no diamonds.
Stephanie Maslow Blackman is taking a stand against sourcing precious stones which are embroiled in conflict due to excessive mining, immense water consumption and the creation of toxic waste. Her company sustainably sources gems and works directly with small batch, family-owned casters and metalsmiths to keep all production in New York City. By doing this, Metalicious is committed to supporting the local economy and paying fair wages to their employees.
Stephanie and the Metalicious team take social responsibility seriously, in addition to sustainable practices Stephanie has personally committed to raise $30,000 for New York City non-profit City Harvest. They rescue perfectly edible food from supermarkets and local restaurants that would go to waste and redirect it to soup kitchens, food pantries and their own mobile markets. Bringing healthy food to people who don’t know when their next meal is coming is important to Stephanie, “It touched me personally when I read that 1 in every 5 of the people City Harvest feeds is a child. Kids that go to school with my own kids, children I see playing in the playgrounds in the city– and I personally can’t continue to let that happen.” she says.
You can purchase products from Metalicious’ Gift Guide, where 93 cents from every dollar raised will go directly to feeding New Yorkers throughout the 5 boroughs. We’re proud to honor Stephanie and her philanthropic efforts for Women’s History Month. To learn more about Metalicious or donate to City Harvest visit https://metalicious.com.
