Meet the Makers

Mei Zou is the owner of Mei Pattern Studio, a luxury pattern and sample making studio primarily producing runway collections and made-to-measure orders for special events and weddings.

Mei worked as the head in-house pattern maker for Narciso Rodriquez for just under 20 years, and opened her own studio in fall 2018 while working freelance for Kate Spade. When she was looking for a production space, her friends told her that the Garment District was “the place to be.” She went door-to-door asking if office space was available until she found her current studio. Mei Pattern Studio has worked with Jessica Alba, Oscar De La Renta, Mugler, Bach Mai, Telfar, Spanx, among many others, while her clothes have adorned singers like Lizzo, Madison Beer, Dua Lipa, actresses like Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, and Sarah Jessica Parker, and cultural fixtures like Kylie Jenner, Shaquille O’Neal, and Oprah.

Mei has been in love with sewing and pattern making since she was little, making clothes for her baby dolls out of scraps of fabric. She finds her work very rewarding in making her clients’ visions come to life: “It is magical to see the final piece come to life and know it started as a piece of paper and some handwork.”
