Meet the Makers

Carl Goldberg, the founder of CEGO Custom Shirt, grew up working in his family’s Army & Navy store in Philadelphia when he was a teenager. Carl attended George Washington University in Washington D.C. to study business, then made his way to New York City to pursue the love of fine clothing manufacturing that he developed in his youth. He got a job at Barneys, the iconic department store, then on Seventh Avenue at 17th Street.

After his Barneys stint, Carl ran the special orders department for a men’s suit factory at Driggs Avenue and North 9th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Then he started his own business selling wool. Eventually, he became a shirtmaker, calling his company CEGO, a derivative of his initials.
